Guest Blogger: Everyday Art

Hi Everyone! We're Emily and Jaime from Everyday Art.
We're excited to be here at Not JUST a Housewife! What a great blog--isn't it great to love being a wife and mother? We believe that these roles are the perfect ways for us to create something wonderful everyday. We love to have fun with our kiddos, and today we bring you....
Food dye fun!
How fun is that? Anyone else want a little color to brighten up the last bit of winter?
I first saw this idea on my personal friend and fellow-blogger Lyndee's blog.
I turned the whole thing into a science lesson about hydrophobic and hydrophillic molecules, where we learned about attraction and repulsion, but you could very easily turn it into a lesson about how soap works to wash our hands, or you could just have fun because it looks really cool. :)
Want to have fun with your kids today? Here's what you do.

1) Get some milk (preferably whole, but I used 1% with satisfactory results).
2) Pour the milk into a baking dish or shallow bowl.
3) Apply drops of food coloring.
4) Completely not necessay, but I also poured some cooking oil in the milk to demonstrate how oil and milk don't mix. The oil also looks cool when you dip the soap in it.
5) Now get your cotton swab and dip it into some soap (hand soap, dish soap, whatever).
6) Dip your soap-saturated cotton swap into the food dye or into the oil and watch what happens!
You'll be amazed at how quickly things will happen.
What fun pretty colors you can make!
Besides having fun with our kids, Emily and I love handmade projects and cooking great food.
Here's two of our recent posts.
We also enjoy yarn crafts like knitting and crocheting. Basicallly, we like having fun with life and creating a little art everyday. Come on over to Everyday Art and lets get acquainted. Thanks for having us Stacy.
Best,

  10. I love what you guys did with the multi-colors. I had to laugh at the lesson you taught. How old are your kids? heheheh
I could use that same lesson since I have no idea what you're talking about. I do remember something about protons and neurons and positive and negative. Am I anywhere close?
